Swaminathan S. Anklesaria Aiyar  a well known journalist writs in one of his article that, “if we talk about ethics and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) then its for sure that India will Provide a role Model to the world and TATA will be their on top of the ladder.

Strategic Guru C.K.Prahalad in his book “Fortune at the Bottom of Pyramid” count on BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) countries to be the front runner in controlling world economies, but the question that arises is corruption and beauracracy will ruin this fate. India is considered as one of the worlds corrupted country, and the question is that whether this corruption is growing its jaws in private sector, are they are losing on ethics, and one of  my counter with such kind of incident made me thing so.

But before getting into what happened let us understand what are Ethics and CSR. Ethics (also known as moral philosophy) is a branch of philosophy which seeks to address questions about morality; that is, about concepts such as good and bad, the noble and the ignoble, right and wrong, justice, and virtue where as “Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large.

What Happened: yesterday I got a sms from one of my friend indication as, “one company (name not mention) is promoting its website, and send this message to 19 other peoples and you will get Rs 378.16 amount  free in your mobile phone, suddenly I become greedy and it is so also, I think spending  Rs19 and getting Rs 378 is a very good deal, and I started messaging, but in the mean time my friend calls me up and said don’t message it’s a fake, as he was fooled already, and I stopped immediately but till then I had messaged it to 10 peoples and my cousin who got the message from me also forwarded the messaged to 19 peoples, and soon I realized I was cheated, I got trapped in trick which was unethical and aims only at  promoting their website and cheating common people , it made me so angry.

Years and years of what were once called publicity stunts have fooled innocent participants, fueled careers and sold millions of dollars of product. Innocently and without anyone getting hurt – even with no organization looking out for them. Marketers have always done goofy things. Some work, some don’t, some are incredibly authentic, and some are corny. In the end, the consumer gets to decide what’s art and what’s a stunt.

    Ethical Dilemma in Today’s Business

However, there were still several large multinational companies indulging in ethically questionable practices. If MNCs behave unethically, it soon comes to the notice of the public and the company’s image is tainted. Multinationals are often worse off for having behaved unethically in the interest of short term gains, as the bad publicity generated by unethical practices leads to far greater losses in the long run.

In the challenge of modern society, manager or worker often encounters a situation than challenges one’s ethical beliefs and standards. Managing across border increasingly includes difficult ethical dilemmas. It is less clear where to draw the line between ethical behavior and the corporation’s other concerns, or between the conflicting expectations of ethical behavior among different countries.

    Globalization and market forces
