“GREENATHON” GO GREEN A CAUSE – FOR A CAUSE

Whether it is World Wild Life Fund, or it is IDEA Cellular Service adds to promote “how to save trees” or the World Summit at Coppenhegam about Global Warming, the main motto behind all is to save OUR EARTH.

We grew up listening, reading and acting upon few of the acts like

Stop Pollution.
Say no to Plastic bags.
Save our Environment.
Plant trees.
Save water.

And the list goes on and on and on……..and they all serve the same cause to save our Alma Mater “Earth”.

On 6^th February 2010 at 7:00 pm NDTV started a movement in collaboration with Toyota in the name of “GREENATHON”. A movement, a revolution and a cause-for a cause.

GREENATHON is a 24 hrs movement, where celebrities and peoples from various verticals whether it is from Bollywood, Central Government, Sports, Corporate, Painters, came together to raise funds and even they took pledge for the same cause. It basically aims at raising fund for the purchase of Solar Lights which will be donated to the villagers.

It comprises a 100km marathon run By Miland Soman to raise the fund, auction of paintings painted by well known painters across the country, performance by different musical bands, recycling of waste and garbage, cleaning of river and donation by peoples who are their for the cause to light the word. The most interesting part of the whole event is pledge taken by Chief Minister for various states to make their state a Green State. And the best part which flourishes my mind like fragrances of flower was generation of electricity from waste disposals by just paddling a bicycle “means exercise with energy”.

But the thing is”People are Nihilistic and Cynical, they are aware of the consequences of the Global Warming or depletion of Ozone layer they talk big! But are they really doing anything for the cause? And the answer! It’s better to ask your inner self. I also feel eluded and insane to myself about myself that I am a culprit too. I did all the activities to harm our nature, whether it’s about polluting the environment or wasting resources, and I am sorry for that. And at the same time I am taking pledge and I am with GREENATHON for the cause.

Mr. Suresh Kalmadi has taken an initiative to make 2010 COMMON WEALTH GAMES a Green Games. So I urge each and all “lets come and join hands to the cause to make event a successful one’
